Message From The Director

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR:

The Literacy Center of Harlingen has been a vital part of the community since 1986, and in that nearly 40 years of service the Center has provided thousands of adults with educational resources. This would not be possible without the support of our city, dedication of our volunteers, and commitment of past and current members of the Board of Directors.

We are located in one of the original buildings in the Historic Downtown Harlingen area, and with that comes significant structural maintenance and repairs. With large scale projects such as AC replacement and new roofing, to smaller cosmetic issues such as painting and lighting, the Center does rely on fundraising within our area to be able to allocate funds for restoration in order to continue operating. We are a true non-profit organization, meaning we do not receive funding or grants from the state. Instead we seek purpose driven grants from literacy groups, affiliations with charitable organizations like The United Way, and private donations.

As the only literacy center within Cameron County, the needs of our community have grown drastically, and our wish is to be able to accommodate that increase in demand. If you are interested in assisting the Center in our continued efforts to empower the residents of our area through education, please consider donating or volunteering.

The Literacy Center of Harlingen would like to express our sincerest gratitude to our supporters for your contributions and constant faith in our mission to uplift the members of our community by providing them with opportunities to succeed.

Thank you,

Marina Preston
Director
