1. Go to www.myged.com and register for free; while it is not possible to take a GED test on-line, this website has lots of valuable information.

2. For a $10 registration fee, the Literacy Center will give you a reading assessment to determine your reading level; GED materials are written at an 11th grade level.

3. The Literacy Center also sells a complete GED study guide for $25.00, which may be registered on the Kaplan website for free with purchase of your book; registering the book entitles the user to free practice tests, video resources and additional material in any of the four subject areas.  Take the time to read the introductions in the front of the book, in order to utilize it to your best advantage.

4. ALWAYS start with your best subject, NEVER your worst!  The shortest and simplest of the four tests is Social Studies.  

5. Work on ONE SUBJECT AT A TIME.

6. When ready, take the on-line practice test in that subject.  The practice test will tell you if you are: 1.) likely to pass   2.) Not likely to pass   or 3.) Too close to call.

7. When you feel confident enough to take the ACTUAL test, you may register (and pay for) that ONE test on the web-site.  You can choose the date and time of your preference.  Actual tests are approximately $40.00 each and must be paid for in advance.

8. When you get to the Math section (which should be your last subject, if in fact it is your most challenging), the Literacy Center MAY BE ABLE to provide you with a tutor. 

9. We currently have limited space for GED (we’re working on that for the future),however the Literacy Center is happy to provide you a quiet place to study and prepare.

THE GED TEST CONSISTS OF FOUR SUBJECTS: 1.) Social Studies, 2.) Science, 3.) Math, 4.) Reading Language Arts and Writing Language Arts (which is one test).
